The Unit 3 project involved students designing a vehicle that used the least
amount of petroleum that it could. Alternative fuel and manufacturing
techniques were involved in the vehicle design. Students started by
evaluating claims in an ad for a fictional car that was supposedly petroleum
free. Students then thought of possible replacement materials for the
petroleum products that are found in cars. The final product was a 60
second commercial/presentation that included a comparison to petroleum vehicles,
fuel mileage and emission projections for the vehicle, the vehicles name, model,
safety and special features, and a drawing of the vehicle.
