The purpose of this lab was to introduce students to the different 3D shapes of
molecules and to VSPER theory. Electrons repel each other and want to be
as far apart in a molecule as possible. Students made ball and stick
models without the holes to show that number of atoms attached and number of
unpaired electrons determined what shape the molecules had. The angle
between the job was measured. The structures of the same molecules was
then made with the chemistry model kits to compare the two models.
