This lab was meant introduce students to respiration, the process by which
energy is produced in the cell. Students explored either the effect of
either the amount of yeast or the amount of sugar on the rate of
respiration. Students placed the yeast in test tubes, added water and amounts
of sugar, and measured the amount of foam produced. The more foam
produced, the faster the yeast were breaking down the sugar and performing
respiration.
