The purpose of this lab was to have students explore reflection and refraction
through several activities. Students started by shining sunlight and a
penlight on a mirror and measuring and comparing the angle of incidence and
angle of reflection. Refraction was observed by shining a light through
water and acrylic and observing the change in the light beam. Another
method of observing refraction was to place a pencil or pen behind glass,
plastic, water, and acrylic and pennies placed in a
tank of water were compared to pennies out of the water.
