This lab was meant to introduce students to photosynthesis, the process by which
plants turn carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight into glucose and oxygen.
Elodea plants were used for this lab. Specifically this lab dealt with the
effect of different wavelengths of light on photosynthesis. Each lab group
took three plants and used them one at a time. One plant was placed in
beaker with water and baking soda for the carbon source. The beaker was
then placed under a desk lamp, and the number of oxygen bubbles produced by the
plant in five minutes were counted. This procedure was repeated for two of
the following waves of light: red, yellow, blue, and green.
