Heat of Fusion of Ice Lab Results

The purpose of this lab was to have students calculate the heat of fusion of ice using a calorimeter.  A certain volume of water was heated to around 45 degrees Celsius.  That water was added to ice in the calorimeter and the temperature was monitored and recorded at it's lowest point.  The final volume of the mixture was recorded and the mass of the ice was found from the relationship 1 g of water = 1 ml.  The heat lost by the warm water and transferred to the ice was found by using Q = mCT.  The heat of fusion of the ice was found by using Q = Hf*m.  Percent error was calculated with the accepted value being 334 J/g.
