Eggshell Titration Lab Results

The purpose of this lab was to use titration techniques to calculate the amount of calcium carbonate in an eggshell.  An eggshell was weighed, crushed, and around 0.5 g of the crushed eggshell was added to 50 ml of 1 M HCl for each titration.  Phenolphthalein indicator was added and then the solution was titrated with 1 M NaOH until a slight pink color appeared.  2 or 3 trials were done, and calculations were performed to find out the following:  equations for the two chemical reactions, volume of HCl that reacted with NaOH, the volume of HCl that reacted with calcium carbonate in the eggshell, the moles of calcium carbonate that reacted with the eggshell, and finally the percent composition of calcium carbonate in the eggshell.
