The purpose of this lab was to have students separate a mixture of rubbing alcohol
and water by the process of distillation. Students heated the mixture
slowly until the first drop of distillate landed in the beaker and this
temperature was recorded. Temperature was recorded every 30 seconds until
the second substance started to distill. 1-2 mls of the second substance
was collected and solid iodine was added to identify each substance.
