This lab was meant to show students that cells are small because their primary
mode of transport, diffusion, is slow. Students took four beakers (100 ml,
250 ml, 400 ml, 600 ml), filled them halfway with water, added 2-3 drops of food
coloring, and timed how long it took the food coloring to diffuse through each
beaker. It was found that the larger the volume of water, the longer
diffuse took to occur.
