The purpose of this lab was to allow students to observe animal and plant cells
and some organelles under the microscope. Cheek cells were used for animal
cells, and onion and celery were used for plant cells. The cheek and onion
cells were stained with methylene blue to show the plasma membrane and
nucleus. The celery cells were stained with Janus Green to show the
mitochondria. In addition, students observed the 3D structure of yeast
cells.
