Purpose:   Science is always changing.  New discoveries are being made almost every day.  The purpose of the current events assignment is to get the students familiar with current advances in science and to help them realize the science isn't only in the past, it is also in the present, and future.

Assignment:   Students are to find an article about a current discovery in science in newspapers, magazines, or on the internet.  Students will them turn in a short handwritten paper about the article.  The paper should consist of:

1.  A complete source of the article (1 pt.)
2.  A paragraph summary of the article (2 pts.)
3.  A paragraph student reaction to the article (2 pts.)

4 current events are required per quarter and will be worth a total of 20 points.  2 are due at midquarter and 2 are due at the end of the quarter.  Students can do up to 4 more for extra credit. There is a possibility of 20 extra credit points per quarter.
